A targeted, solutions-focused session to accelerate progress on fugitive emissions in coal mining.

Held as part of GRX25, this interactive session will bring together leaders from across the mining ecosystem - including operators, METS companies, government, and finance - to tackle one of the most urgent decarbonisation challenges facing the sector.

Blending roundtable discussions, case study showcases, and collaborative problem-solving, the workshop is designed to uncover key barriers, share practical insights, and co-develop actionable pathways to reduce fugitive emissions and accelerate industry progress.

Presenters

Marianne Cummings

Director Strategic Development, Austmine

Marianne has been in the METS industry for 13 years, 10 of those with Austmine.

In her current role as Director Strategic Development, she is responsible for developing and overseeing projects that provide new opportunities for members in their growth and innovation journeys.

Most recently she has overseen the Accelerating Women in METS program, the Innovation Mentoring Program and development of a Mining, METS and Space technology cluster. She has also led a number of publication projects, showcasing METS company capabilities globally.

Marianne leads Austmine’s ESG strategy including development of resources to assist the industry be prepared for meeting miner decarbonisation targets as they move through the supply chain.

She is passionate about the METS industry and the potential collaboration has to solve industry challenges and shape a more sustainable future.

Ryan Gomez

General Manager Mine Optimisation and Feasibility, Palaris

MEng (Mining), BEng (Mechanical), NSW OCE certificate of competency

With over fifteen years of experience in the mining and resources industry, Ryan has had extensive experience in senior technical and operational roles in open cut mining.

Ryan has completed over 100+ projects in roles including Technical Director and Project Manager on a number of pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, Due diligence studies, Mine Optimisation & Decarbonisation studies and Independent Technical Engineer reports, JORC reserve reports.

Based in Brisbane, Ryan leads a multi-disciplinary team of mining, geology, processing, ESG specialists to solve complex problems in the resources industry.

Ben Rice

Head of Government Relations and Policy, LETA

Ben Rice is Head of Government Relations and Policy at Low Emission Technology Australia (LETA), a not-for-profit investment fund accelerating the development and large-scale deployment of technology solutions that reduce and remove greenhouse gas emissions from critical industries including steel, cement, and power generation.

Ben is an experienced advocate with a background as a policy lawyer specialising in technology, media, and intellectual property. Prior to joining LETA, he held senior government relations roles across the higher education and technology sectors. He brings a cross-sectoral perspective to emissions reduction policy and is passionate about working with government and industry to help Australia reach its net zero goals as efficiently and effectively as possible.
