BMA joins the Global Resources Innovation Expo as Principal Partner

The Global Resources Innovation Expo (GRX25) is proud to welcome the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) as its Principal Partner, strengthening the event’s role as a premier platform for innovation and collaboration in the mining and METS sector. A partnership between Austmine and AusIMM, GRX25 will take place from 20 – 22 May 2025 in Brisbane, Australia.

BMA, a 50:50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Development, is Australia’s largest producer of seaborne metallurgical coal. With a strong focus on sustainable mining, workforce development, and industry collaboration, BMA plays a significant role in shaping the future of the sector.

As Principal Partner, BMA will be actively involved in key aspects of GRX25. BMA Asset President Adam Lancey will deliver the opening keynote presentation, setting the stage for discussions on leadership, transformation, and the future of mining. With extensive experience across operations, logistics, and business improvement, Adam brings valuable insight into the evolving industry landscape.

“Austmine has a long-standing partnership with BHP, and we are thrilled to welcome BMA as the Principal Partner for GRX25. Their leadership in innovation, sustainability, and workforce development continues to drive progress in the sector. This partnership reinforces our shared commitment to fostering collaboration between mining and METS companies to shape the future of resources. We look forward to working closely with BMA to deliver an outstanding event that showcases cutting-edge technology and industry advancements” said Christine Gibbs Stewart, Chief Executive Officer, Austmine.

As part of their sponsorship BMA will support the Student Program providing 20 university students with the opportunity to attend GRX25, participate in workshops, and gain career insights from industry professionals. They are also backing the Women in STEM Breakfast, featuring a keynote presentation from Marita Cheng, an award-winning engineer, entrepreneur, and advocate for women in technology. Cheng, the founder of Robogals and Aubot, has been recognised as Young Australian of the Year and is a leader in robotics, AI, and STEM education. A panel discussion will follow, exploring career pathways and opportunities for women in resources and technology.

“As a by industry, for industry event, it is brilliant to see the major mining companies like BMA getting behind GRX25,” said AusIMM CEO Stephen Durkin. “Their support for the Student Program and Women in STEM initiatives is helping build a pipeline of talented people whose skills and fresh perspectives will take our sector to an exciting, technology-led future.”
