Dan Heal
Dan is a member of the BHP Australian leadership team and has responsibility for the Western Australian nickel business and for the decarbonisation of BHP’s Australian operations. He has 25 years’ experience in the resources sector across Australia, Canada and Chile in technical, operational and leadership roles and has spent the last 16 years with BHP in its Nickel, Copper and Iron Ore assets, most recently as General Manager of the Yandi and Newman operations in the Pilbara.
He chairs the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) Innovation for Cleaner, Safer Vehicles program, bringing together international mining companies, technology suppliers and equipment manufacturers in addressing key industry challenges around greenhouse gas emissions, diesel particulate matter and vehicle interactions. He is also Chairman of the Board of Management of the Australian Centre for Geomechanics, a not for profit University of Western Australia / CSIRO joint venture which undertakes research, education and training in geotechnical engineering disciplines globally.
Dan holds bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and geology and a PhD in mining engineering, all from the University of Western Australia.
