In 2025, workforce trends are changing, and it is not common for people in operations roles to stay in one business or role for more than a few years. This means that more and more of the operator's job is being guided by the machine's onboard systems so that the mine can achieve better consistency and efficiency across its operators.

To improve operator guidance, we must incorporate artificial intelligence onboard mobile equipment that can be run in real time without an internet connection.  

Panasoinc Toughpads and similar devices are currently used to guide operators on mobile mining equipment. These devices are acceptable for their purpose but lack the correct processing setup to support high-data real-time AI in the mining environment.

The innovation we submit for this award is our solution to this problem, the JetScreen, which was officially launched as part of the Austmine Innovation Roadshow in Newcastle. 

Jetscreen is the first AI tablet on the market to replace existing Toughpad computers as a drop-in replacement. Jetscreen represents a critical step-change, as it can process AI algorithms up to 100 times faster than a Toughpad. 

It comes in a few varieties, of 10in and 7in screen, and for applications where operators did not want to feel like they were being watched; it also comes with a no-screen option with just tactile buttons and indicators.

It has been specifically engineered to meet the needs of mobile mining equipment. It is a platform to empower development teams worldwide with the ability to deploy the most advanced AI algorithms for wear on consumables, classification of materials, sizes of rocks, pose of vehicles, damage to a piece of mining equipment, and so on. We are at the point now where if you have a human able to detect something, we can train a computer to do the same, generally to a higher standard.
